The Derwen College in Gobowen, near Oswestry, opened its doors to hundreds of people on Thursday, for an afternoon of entertainment to raise money for the college's facilities for its students.

The afternoon offered something for everyone, including fun and games, as well as a host of stalls including books, tombola, a vintage sale, a bottle stall and market stall, and as an added bonus the sun even shone for the event.

One of the main highlights of the day included the college's students performing the 'Time Warp' for all to see.

This year's event held particular significance as 2017 marks the college's 90th birthday.

Mayor of Oswestry, Councillor Vince Hunt, who was one of the special guests at the fete, said it was a "fantastic afternoon".

He said: "I had a brilliant time, it was a fantastic afternoon, with plenty to do and see.

"The particular highlight for me was watching the students perform the 'Time Warp'. As a father I've watched performances at my children's schools over the years, some have been better than others but I've enjoyed them because my children were in them but this performance was absolutely superb, I've got to say, it was brilliant.

"The Derwen is a fantastic place, it's a real credit to the area."

During his afternoon at the fete, Councillor Hunt also paid a visit to the college's very own farm shop.

He added: "I must admit I wasn't aware this was here until today and it's fantastic, there's a brilliant selection of products there. I came home with some jam but what I think is fantastic to see is that the students contribute in some way.

"There's a group who grow the produce, there's another group who manufactures and cans the products and then there's another set who do the marketing. I think it's wonderful for the students."
