From rock tours to comedy gigs and theatre shows - we take a look at some of the top shows coming to the Midlands and Shropshire in 2019.

The Streets - O2 Academy, Birmingham

The Streets

The Birmingham group, led by Mike Skinner, is best known for songs such as Fit But You Know It, Turn The Page, Could Be Well In and Blinded By The Lights.

In two homecoming gigs, The Streets will play the O2 Academy on January 18 and 19.

Gary Powndland and Friends - Glee Club, Birmingham

Gary Powndland

Following sell-out shows in Wolverhampton, Gary has booked a babysitter for the foxes and welcomes you to a night of comedy, animation, football and erotic fiction at Birmingham's Glee Club on ajANUARY 4.

Powndland has almost 10,000 followers on his Facebook page, with some of his regular home videos receiving around 200,000 views.

Frank Turner - Arena Birmingham

Frank Turner

Former Million Dead vocalist Frank Turner has gone solo, penning songs such as Recovery, The Next Storm, I Still Believe, If Ever I Stray and The Way I Tend To Be.

The 36-year-old folk/punk musician has released seven solo albums to date, and will perform track from his latest release, Be More Kind, at Arena Birmingham on January 22.

Anton and Erin: Dance Those Magical Musicals - Symphony Hall, Birmingham

The world of Ballroom meets Musical Theatre when the nation's favourite ballroom couple, Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag, take on breath-taking choreography set to iconic theatrical favourites such as The Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, 42nd Street, Hairspray, Cabaret, Wicked, Top Hat, Jersey Boys and many more.

They will be supported by TV favourite Lance Ellington joined by the London Concert Orchestra when they perform at Birmingham's Symphony Hall on January 26.

Andre Rieu 2019 New Year's Concert - Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury

The iconic André Rieu returns to cinemas across the country for a very special New Year’s concert – his first ever for the big screen.

The star presents a brand-new concert, recorded at Sydney’s Town Hall in Australia, to hundreds of thousands of fans across the world - with a show at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn on January 6.

Robin Hood and The Revolting Peasants - Oakengates Theatre, Telford

Join Robin, Little John, Maid Marion and of course Friar Tuck as they take on some of their hardest challenges to date: A conniving king, a sinister sheriff and a downtrodden village of peasants who’s ‘get up and go’ has got up and gone.

Enjoy laughter, fast-paced action, live music and more when the show comes to Telford's Oakengates Theatre on January 11.

Ghost - Wolverhampton Grand

Ghost tells the story of Sam is trapped as a ghost between this world and the next trying to communicate with girlfriend Molly through a phoney psychic, Oda Mae Brown, in the hope of saving her from his murderer.

Directed by Bill Kenwright, the musical adaptation will embark on a brand new UK tour next year, coming to the Lichfield Street Theatre from January 22 to 26.

Snow Patrol - Arena Birmingham

Snow Patrol

The Northern Irish indie rockers will play the Midlands as part of a wider UK and Ireland tour with a show at Arena Birmingham on January 25.

Songs the band is best known for include Chasing Cars, Open Your Eyes, Run and Just Say Yes.

Daniel Sloss - O2 Academy, Birmingham

Daniel Sloss

The 28-year-old as the youngest comedian to perform a solo season in London's West End at the age of 19.

This year Daniel released two hour-long comedy specials entitled DARK and Jigsaw, that have been met with rave reviews - and you can experience why when you see his brand new show, X, in Birmingham on January 26.

Ranulph Fiennes - Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury

Named by the Guinness Book of Records as ‘the world’s greatest living explorer’, Sir Ranulph Fiennes has spent his life in pursuit of extreme adventure, risking life and limb in some of the most ambitious private expeditions ever undertaken.

In Living Dangerously, coming to Theatre Severn on January 21, Sir Ranulph offers a personal journey through his life, from his early years to the present day.

Doctor Dolittle - Wolverhampton Grand

Join the eccentric Doctor, his human companions and his exotic menagerie of animal friends on an extraordinary adventure to find the Giant Pink Sea Snail, that holds the secret of life and making the world a happier place. when Doctor Dolittle arrives in Wolverhampton from January 29 to February 9.

The new production of Doctor Dolittle the Musical will be part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the original film starring Rex Harrison, and will feature the same songs, including the Academy Award-winning Talk To The Animals.

The Manchester quartet fronted by Matt Healy, the son of actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy, has also announced that eagerly-anticipated third studio album A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships will be released on November 30 ahead of the tour coming to Arena Birmingham on January 23.

Formed in 2002, the band is best known for hit songs such as Chocolate, Girls, Heart Out, UGH!, The Sound, Robbers and Somebody Else.

Jason Manford - Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury

Jason Manford

His new show, Muddle Class - coming to Shrewsbury on January 22 - promises to feature a wealth of new material about Jason growing up ‘working class’ then finding, over the years, that part of him has become ‘middle class’.

Jason is best known for his appearances on 8 Out o 10 Cats, Show Me the Funny, A Question of Sport: Super Saturday and Bigheads.

Martin Barre Band - Robin 2, Bilston

Martin Barre

In addition to his work with prog rock icons Jethro Tull, the Birmingham star has also collaborated with artists such as Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, Jo Bonamassa and Chris Thompson, and has shared a stage with legends including Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

Songs the Kings Heath star is best known for include Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, Cross Eyed Mary, and Teacher - songs you'll surely hear when his solo show comes to Bilston's Robin 2 on January 23.

Bastille have announced a run of intimate dates next year, including one at Birmingham's O2 Academy on January 29.

The London quartet have played over 500 shows across six continents, including the critically acclaimed ReOrchestrated tour, and have amassed 15 million single sales and 6 million album sales globally.

Mark Kermode - Birmingham REP

In his brand new show coming to Birmingham REP on January 21, Mark Kermode recounts his utterly foolhardy attempts to fulfill his dreams of becoming a pop star - from building an electric guitar from scratch while at school, to playing a tea-chest bass on the kids TV show Utterly Brilliant, and becoming the musical director of a major TV show - all without ever learning to read music.

This will be a hilarious evening in which the film critic recalls falling in love with Slade as a teenager, and recording an album at Sun Studio as an ageing old ted. Warning: there may be musical interludes. Or not.

The Wombats - O2 Academy, Birmingham

The Wombats

The announcement that the band will play Birmingham's O2 Academy on January 31 came after the release of the trio's fourth album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, which features singles such as Lemon to a Knife Fight, Turn, Cheetah Tongue and Black Flamingo.

The Liverpool group formed in 2003, and are best known for hit singles such as Kill the Director, Give Me a Try, Moving to New York and Let's Dance to Joy Division.
