Entry to members of the public was free as the choir put on a marathon concert of their huge repertoire of songs.

Chris Mansell of the choir thanked the public for braving the weather and supporting the event.

He said: "People were able to pick their own favourites for us to sing. We had a list on the wall of our repertoire, and people were able to pick what they want, put some money in the box, and we then sang it for them.

"Our repertoire is well over 70 songs, I would think, and goes back to time immemorial."

At full strength, he said, the choir had 46 members and there was be a core of singers during the seven hours. For the last two hours the choir held a concert style event."

"We did something similar for Children In Need three years ago and raised over £2,000," Mr Mansell said.

The event coincided with crocus in bloom throughout Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin, planted by Rotary clubs across the area as part of the Purple4Polio campain.
