Crowds will flock to Rock and Bowl

The Rock and Bowl festival will return for its 11th year of entertaining the town in a month's time, and will be headlined by three tribute acts.

The bands leading the main Green Monkey stage will be the Stones on Saturday, Mercury on Sunday and Re-Take That on Monday.

Supporting them throughout the day will be favourites including Ego Friendly, Custard Connection, Hipster, the Uptown Monotones, House Jammerz, Secret Elephant and more.

The Sandbrook Vaults stage meanwhile will host Neu'Shea, Grant Sharkey and Megan Dixon Hood among others.

Every year the festival directors pick a charity to support, and this year's beneficiaries will be the Shropshire branch of mental health charity Mind.

Organiser Jeremy Blandford said ticket sales are up 20 per cent on last year and spoke of his excitement.

"The line-up seems to be getting better year on year, and this year is no exception," he said.

"There are some great nationally-recognised tribute bands and some fantastic up-and-coming acts and some local acts as well."

He said that even through there was a spell of bad weather at last year's festival, the "British festival atmosphere" meant the 10th anniversary was still a huge success.

Jeremy hailed fellow organiser Laurence Payne, and the team of 95 hard-working volunteers, who he said the festival wouldn't happen without.

This year will be the fifth of a partnership with Joule's Brewery, based in Market Drayton.

Steve Nuttall, managing director of the brewery, said: "We are delighted to once again be partnering with the annual Rock and Bowl Festival. Our flagship cold craft lager, Green Monkey, is the official beer partner of the Rock and Bowl Festival and we are excited to be showcasing the Green Monkey Ale Bus again at this year’s festival."

The Rock and Bowl Festival will take place from May 25 to 27.
