There was music for all the family at the popular Carols in The Square event on Wednesday evening, which was hosted by BBC Shropshire’s Eric Smith.

Entertainment was provided by Shrewsbury Brass Band, with members of Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir leading the crowds with renditions of classic Christmas carols including Once in Royal David’s City, The First Noel and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

Many were huddled under umbrellas but the rain did not put a dampener on the concert which took part under the twinkling Christmas lights.

Late night shoppers were also able to take part as the show was live streamed in the town’s Market Hall, which stayed open late for people to pick up last-minute presents.

Anyone who could not make it into the town centre could watch from the comfort of their own home, too.

Many of the town’s independent retailers stayed open in support of the concert which is managed by Shrewsbury Town Council and has become one of the most popular events in the town’s festive calendar.
