Mark Lockyer brings Living With the Lights One to Theatr Cymru, Mold, from April 10 to 12.

It is touring the UK following three previous UK and European sell-out tours and two sell-out runs at the Young Vic London.

The play is a searing account of his manic depressive breakdown which descended on him when he as playing Mercutio in the RSC’s production of Romeo and Juliet in Stratford Upon Avon in 1995. The illness saw him walk out on his stage career and embark on a disastrous and terrifying journey that ended up in Belmarsh Prison and the secure unit in a psychiatric wing of hospital.

He says that the play is testament to the fact that mental illness can happen to anyone, that the bipolar mind is not a deficient one and that, with the right treatment there can be a life beyond it.

Mark Lockyer’s career spans three decades and includes leading roles at the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Old Vic, the Young Vic, and the Royal Court. He was most recently seen as Danaos in The Suppliant Women. Iago in Othello and Subtle in The Alchemist.
