Led by Countryfile and The One Show presenter Matt Baker, the team of six cyclists have braved rain, sleet and wind as they make their 400-mile trip form Holyhead to the Elstree studios in London.

Having set off from Holyhead on Friday and covering an average of 50 miles a day, the team of six have pushed themselves to the limit.

But when they reached Oswestry on Sunday evening, they were given a heroes' welcome as crowds lined the streets cheering them on their way to the finish at the town's Bailey Head.

An overnight stay in a local hotel allowed them to recover before setting off bright and early today en-route for Crewe.

Since its launch in 2011 the Rickshaw has covered thousands of miles and raised millions of pounds.

Taking the helm as the bike made its way from Oswestry and along the roads to Crewe, calling in at Gobowen, St Martins and Overton, was Adelle, 17.

In November 2017, Adelle’s best friend Victoria died from acute myeloid leukaemia.

Several months after Victoria’s death, Adelle fell ill and doctors confirmed that she had the same cancer as her best friend.

She underwent chemotherapy which was initially successful. However her health deteriorated and at one point doctors even considered palliative care. She began to recover and in October 2018 was well enough for a bone marrow stem cell transplant.

She said: "It has been amazing with everybody coming out to see us. Their support has been amazing - just seeing everyone spurs you to keep on going. The whole team get on really well, we met at the recruitment weekend and we have forged a really strong bond, so we are really close.

"I like being the first rider out in the morning as then you don't have to wait until it is your turn. It was wonderful to see everybody as we came in to Oswestry and there were so many people cheering us on, it was unreal."

Matt added: "People want to pay their respects for the youngsters that want to do this and it's a really tangible thing to want to donate to.

"The riders have benefitted from Children in Need donations in the past – they know what a difference they make.

"They want to give back, raise awareness for what they've had and say thanks to all that excellent care and attention they've had in the past.

"I think everyone really respects that and for Children in Need, who better to give your donation to than those who have needed it."

If all goes to plan, the team will arrive in London on Friday in time for the BBC Children in Need Appeal Show.
