Murder Ballad won critical acclaim on Broadway and the West End.

Now young director, Dan Rogers is bringing the modern production to Albert's Shed in the town in a bid to extend the unconventional and broaden the arts scene.

He has won support from the West End's Kerry Ellis, who starred in the London show. She recorded a good luck message for the cast and crew.

Dan, from Shawbury, has self-funded the production on May 20 and 21.

"Shrewsbury is such an artsy play and I want to make theatre really immersive."

With a cast of four and a band, Murder Ballad is set within a bar and tells the story of three people stuck in a secret love triangle.

Dan said: "Sara is stuck in the middle, torn between her down town past and her uptown future. In the true tradition of all great murder ballads, when songs of love-gone-wrong are sung, blood must be spilled."

The audience has the chance to be part of the set, with some seating amidst the action.

"We want theatre to be more immersive and get rid of the audience/cast divide," he said.

"We brought Green Day's rock opera, American Idiot to Shrewsbury last year and it sold out."
