Despite dull conditions, scores of foodies popped into the town for a bite to eat on Saturday and to sample the delights served up by dozens of stallholders.

It was organised by volunteers at Newport’s Town Team for the third time and featured street entertainer Juggling Jim who was given a "grilling" by little Ronnie Parton four, of Newport.

There were African, Asian and French dishes and artisan stalls selling cheese, preserves, oils, cakes, pies and pizza, fruit and vegetables, as well as beers, ciders, wines and gins were also on tap at the show held in St Mary’s Street, Lower Bar, and High Street.

Mike Atherton, Town Team manager, said: “Hundreds of people came. We had a tremendous turn out despite the dull and grey skies, which was fantastic.“There were around 60 stalls and all said they were pleased with the level of trade they did and will come back.”

The event is run in collaboration with local businesses and is partly funded through sponsorship from many of those businesses.
