Shropshire Potato Day organisers aiming for a mash hit

By Mat Growcott | Newport | Telford entertainment | Published:

Organisers behind the eighth Shropshire Potato Day are hoping for another mash hit when it returns in the coming weeks.

Run by husband and wife team Gerrol and Alison Jalving. hundreds of people will turn out for the popular show at Harper Adams University on February 2.

Gardeners, allotment growers and all other green-fingered people will be able to buy a whole host of seeds, from more than 100 varieties of seed potato to onions, beans, peas and flowers.

Mr Jalving said: "It is the largest potato event in Shropshire and the Midlands and takes place every year on the first Sunday in February.

"It is a great day out, not only for home potato growers and allotment gardeners, but for their friends and families too, as together with well over 100 varieties of seed potatoes, for sale in small bags or loose, there is plenty more on offer.

"Onions, shallots, beans and peas, flower bulbs and an amazing range of vegetable seeds, enough to fill any garden or allotment with produce and colour. Get your potato growing questions answered by people with years of experience.

"We are also joined by a range of local food and craft stalls such as cheese, bread, chocolate and fudge to tempt you. A great time to think about Valentines and Mother's Day.

"With all this, you'll want a few hours at the event, which is fully accessible including lifts. It is all indoors, so the weather cannot beat us, and car-parking right outside. Teas, coffees and other refreshments are available, including some great locally produced Asian cuisine by Atia to enjoy on the day or to take away."
