Shrewsbury man jailed for kidnapping and imprisoning woman in her own home

A man who kidnapped, falsely imprisoned and threatened a woman with a knife in her own home has been jailed today.

Ashley Lawlor- Stephens, 42, of Alms Court in Meole Brace in Shrewsbury, admitted kidnapping his former partner on January 11.

He also admitted falsely imprisoning the same woman against her will from 9.30pm and 5am on the same day into the next morning.

The victim, Sadie Hopkins, managed to escape to her sister's house in the early hours where she called the police and the defendant was arrested at a garage, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard at his sentencing today.

Judge Peter Barrie sentenced Lawlor- Stephens to 32 months in prison, of which he will serve half in custody and half on licence.

He also issued a restraining order for the defendant to stay away from the victim and banned him from entering Shrewsbury town on his release from prison.

He faced charges of kidnap and another of false imprisonment and pleaded guilty to both.
