Cian Curley, 22, who works for Martin Scaffolding Services, was named one of the Inspirational Apprentice Achievers of the Year at the Construction Industry Training Board Apprenticeship Awards.

Cian, who has now finished his apprenticeship and is working full time at Martin Scaffolding Services, beat off competition from thousands of others at the awards in London on November 1.

He said: said: “I am speechless! I can’t believe I have won the award.

"My apprenticeship was such an amazing experience; I’d recommend one to anyone who wants to learn while gaining practical experience on site. It’s the best balance in my opinion.

"I would like to thank everyone at CITB and Martin Scaffolding Services for all they have done for me.”

Jenny Dallaway, Apprenticeship Officer at CITB, added: “Cian is extremely deserving of this award.

"Despite all he has been through, Cian has shown great perseverance and capability at work and in college. He is an asset to CITB and the industry and he should be very proud of himself.”
