Petrol station near Market Drayton to be completely rebuilt

By Rob Smith | Tern Hill | Business | Published:

The demolition of a busy petrol station has begun near Market Drayton to allow for a full rebuild.

The Shell garage at Tern Hill will reopen in March with extra pumps, a Waitrose shop and 15 new parking spaces.

The new-look station will be 113 square metres bigger than the existing one, and will cater for three full-time and seven part-time staff.

Permission for the work was granted earlier this year.

A report from Shropshire Council's planning department said: "The application seeks planning to fully demolish and re-build the site in order to improve the aesthetics and layout, and the environmental installation of the fuel storage system.

"The initial intention was to replace only the fuel storage system.

"However the proposed works are deemed necessary in order to ensure the Shell network is maintained as a sound environmental portfolio and prevent any issues with tank and infrastructure on the fuel system."

The site is just off the roundabout where the A53 and A41 converge, and has been a petrol station since the 1950s.
