On the roof of the distinctive Shrewsbury headquarters of Morris & Company, the milestone years of 1869 and 2019 are lit up along with the theme ‘Honouring the Past, Embracing the Future’ adding a festive sparkle to the town’s skyline.

The illuminated installation joins the company’s Christmas polar bear display – a popular seasonal fixture – ahead of its year of celebrations for the fifth generation family-run business group. A special anniversary flag has also been hand-made to fly from the rooftop’s flagpole.

Chris Morris, director of Morris & Co, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our 150th anniversary in the town where it all started, just a stone’s throw away from the original Morris shop over the river in Frankwell.

“We felt the polar bears wouldn’t mind sharing their birds-eye view of the town this Christmas with some extra special decoration ringing in our momentous birthday year ahead.

“We’re looking forward to sharing a host of special events to celebrate this historic occasion with our staff and the wider community here in Shrewsbury.”

Since Chris, Robin and Timothy’s great, great grandfather, James Kent Morris, started the enterprise with a small shop in Frankwell in 1869, the company has evolved and today employs over 720 local people. Operating in commercial and residential property, care homes and its international site machinery business, Morris and Company remains proud of its Shropshire roots and family values.
