'Burnt to a crisp': Thieves set cash machine on fire near Market Drayton

A cash machine was broken into and set on fire near Market Drayton in the early hours of this morning.

One fire engine as well as a police car were sent to the Adastra services in Tern Hill shortly before 1am.

Police found that someone had broken into the standalone ATM with 'a variety of equipment' before setting it alight and leaving.

A member of staff at the service station said the machine had been 'burnt to a crisp'.

Detective Inspector Dafydd Jones of West Mercia Police said: "Crimes like these damage local businesses, and have a real knock-on effect on the community. So we're urging anybody who saw or heard something suspicious to please come forward and assist our investigation.

"If you witnessed the incident, or have information that might add to our ongoing investigation please get in touch."

Crew used a single hosereel jet to tackle the fire, and emergency services left the scene at 1.36am.
