Stephen Corbett, 36, of Berberis Way, Leegomery, Telford, denies breaking into the house in Wellington in June this year.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday Cathlyn Orchard, prosecuting, told the jury that Doreen and Roy Haywood’s home in Crescent Road was broken into overnight on June 14 while they were asleep.

Mobile phones, two tablets, a laptop and a purse and bank cards were stolen.

Miss Orchard said the cards were used within hours of the burglary.

When the couple, who have lived in the house for 32 years, woke they found their front door open and possessions gone.

They contacted the police and handed officers film from their home CCTV camera which showed two men going into the house.

Corbett was arrested and denied having anything to do with the burglary.

Police searched his home and found clothing similar to that worn by one of the burglars.

"This included a glove with a small hole in it," Miss Orchard said.

"The CCTV footage shows one of the burglars wearing a glove that looks like it has a hole in the same place."

The trial continues.
