The man stopped his car by the child on Church Street at about 3.30pm on Friday, offering to give him a lift home.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "The child sensibly ran off and went straight home, where his mother immediately called the police.

"An officer attended and took details from the child in an effort to identify the person involved in this incident.

"Only a limited description of the car is available, it was grey with a silver W in a circle above the number plate, probably a Volkswagen.

"The car was a four door and had a pair of red dice hanging from the rear view mirror.

"The man was described as being in his twenties to thirties, with black, ordinary length hair.

"He was wearing a suit waistcoat over a blue fading to white sweatshirt. He was wearing ripped jeans."

The police said John Wilkinson Primary School, where the boy attends, has been informed of what happened and will make other parents aware.

Police are asking for anyone that could help identify the man to call 101 referring to incident 0472s of December 14.
