Man charged with shooting at police helicopter in Lake Vyrnwy incident

A man has been charged with firing a gun at a police helicopter near to a Mid Wales beauty spot.

Police attended an incident at Alltforgan, Llanwddyn, near to Lake Vyrnwy, on Monday to assess the wellbeing of Richard Lawrence Alan Barnard.

An investigation was launched and Barnard, 44, has since been charged with three firearms offences.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Dyfed-Powys Police launched an investigation following an incident on Monday, January 21, at Alltforgan, Llawddyn, Powys where a firearm was discharged at unarmed officers who had attended to assess his well-being.

"Barnard has been charged with possession of a firearm (a sawn off shotgun) with intent to endanger life, possession of an imitation firearm and acting in a manner likely to endanger aircraft by firing at a police helicopter."

He was due to appear at Mold Magistrates Court today.
