Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the Bucks Head, in High Street, at about 8pm on Thursday.

Simon Hardiman, area manager for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We attended an incident in Church Stretton where a package appeared to have been left in the door of a public house.

"There were potentially two people suffering from side effects from an unknown substance."

The road was shut as specialist officers, hazmat officers and the national detection team investigated the scene.

Mr Hardiman said: "We're unclear whether the substance was thrown at the door or just left at the door. It was in a cling film-type wrap.

"It had been removed by the time we had got there and put in the bin. The detection team retrieved it and tested the substance.

"They determined that it was not harmful to humans and was non-toxic or corrosive."

Two people were treated at the scene by paramedics but did not suffer any injuries.
