A former primary school teacher who received an MBE for services to education has admitted to six child sex offences.

David Watkin Bundock, aged 74, who taught in Mid Wales, admitted possessing indecent images of children and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

Four photographs were classified as category A – the most serious. He also admitted one count of grooming a child. However, Swansea Crown Court heard that the offences did not take place or relate to his time as headteacher at primary schools in Wales.

Bundock, from Cardiff, was remanded in custody before sentencing on March 21.

Swansea Crown Court heard Bundock, who was awarded an MBE in 2004, committed the offences between October 2017 and January 2019.

Bundock was also contracted by education watchdog Estyn as an additional inspector – a self-employed school inspector trained by the inspectorate – up until 2016.

Ceredigion council confirmed he taught in the area from 1980 until 2005 when he moved to the education service, looking at the reorganisation of schools infrastructure until 2011.

However the authority said in a statement: "There is currently no information to indicate that the charges against Watkin Bundock related to his term of employment in Ceredigion.

"If that were to emerge, the council would co-operate fully with the police in terms of their enquiries."
