Thieves targeted Community Helpp in Oakengates during the early hours of yesterday morning, and took the weeks takings as well as the CCTV box.

It happened within a week of when hundreds of pounds was taken from Hilbrae charity shop, opposite Community Helpp.

Pauline Jackson, the charity's founder, said: "It's awful, especially after what happened to the shop opposite us and seeing what they've gone through.

"We thought we'd be safer because of the CCTV. We had a padlock with a chain as well.

"They smashed the door window, exactly like they did at Hilbrae"

Pauline said it had hit the charity hard.

"For people who help people, it's genuinely a very bad blow," she said.

"The people that have done this have got to be in a dark place. It's low to take from people who help others. I think they probably need some help themselves.

"Everybody is going mad. People have been walking past the shop in absolute disgust."
