Physis Heathgates Academy was given the rating 'requires improvement' at the latest inspection in February.

The government watchdog said the school management has not ensured that the independent school standards are fully met, but added the problems are 'relatively minor' and 'easily rectified'.

However, the report noted that the overall quality of teaching has improved, the curriculum is well balanced and the relationship between adults and pupils is strong.

Heathgates is a school for pupils between 10 and 18 years old who have social and emotional difficulties.

Inspectors also praised the sixth form for providing work experience opportunities for pupils and said staff help them explore potential career pathways.
