Dudley Evans sprung into action when the 26-year-old Leyton Orient supporter fell ill during AFC Telford United's FA Trophy semi-final second leg at the New Bucks Head on March 23. He administered emergency first aid to the man while the emergency services were on their way.

The man has made a full recovery after a stay in hospital.

Dudley, a first aid trainer for Telford Business Services, was presented with a commendation from Telford & Wrekin Council’s managing director Richard Partington in recognition of the support and assistance he gave the fan.

After receiving the recognition, he said: “I teach first aid skills to local businesses and school staff in Telford on a daily basis and I was able to put this knowledge into action to help this young man.

“I am delighted to learn that he subsequently made a full recovery – it really shows how important it is to have a level of first aid understanding, it really can save lives.”

Mr Partington said: “Thanks to Dudley’s swift action in performing emergency first aid, the young man’s life was saved. I am delighted to recognise what he did and would like to thank him for reacting quickly to what was a very serious situation.”

Telford & Wrekin Council leader, Councillor Shaun Davies said: “I would like to both thank and congratulate Dudley for what he did. There is no doubt he saved the young man’s life.”

Telford Business Services has taught first aid to more than 500 people in the last 12 months.
