The original caption to this June 1965 picture in our archives said: "Men at work laying part of the gas grid extension from Sedgley to Shrewsbury. This section of the pipeline is near Pattingham. It forms the first major extension of the Black Country gas grid which came into use last year, and when it is opened, some time in the autumn, it will connect Shrewsbury direct with Coleshill, where methane gas from the Sahara is mixed into the supply."
