You will have seen plenty of pictures of flooding in Ironbridge in recent weeks, but this 1947 photo from Jackfield historian Ron Miles is a reminder of past defences on The Wharfage, and we're not talking flood defences in this case. Those squares in the roadway are the remains of a wartime tank trap. The idea was to slot in steel girders into the holes to create an obstacle to tanks.
