The group has moved into the former youth centre, off Station Road, along with the beaver and cub packs.

A community asset transfer took place which saw the ownership of the building move from Much Wenlock Town Council, to the first Scout group.

The building, which has not been used for about four years, had a collapsed ceiling, unpainted walls and an overgrown garden. Led by Andy Barker and Simon Ross, the groups were previously based at Priory Hall, where they had been for more than 10 years, which had become unfit for purpose.

Loren Reeve, beaver and cub pack leader, said: “We’ve had some incredible times in the old scout hut, but it was time to move on. An incredible amount of effort was put into making Priory Hall suitable, and I’m pleased to say the effort has been replicated for our new HQ.

“Work has been done to put the collapsed roof back up, ensure all the fire regulations of the building are met, paint all the walls and just make the building a suitable, welcoming place.

"We recently started our beavers group, which is now 20 strong and at capacity, which is where someone mentioned the old youth club might be the perfect place to go and it was. The field is on our doorstep which means we can pitch tents, lay trails and continue our outdoor adventures without having to cross any roads.

“It’s been a huge community effort, with parents coming along and helping get the place ready. The group is still looking to upgrade the hut. We’re looking to insulate the building before winter, and our next big job is sound proofing the building,” she added.

“As you can imagine the kids get very excited and tend to make a bit of noise.”

The group’s former base, on Bull Ring, is set to be used as a furniture showroom.
