Shropshire pensioner died after fall at her home

A former shop assistant from Shropshire died after falling down the stairs and hitting her head on a radiator.

Margaret Emily Corbett, 76, from Cressage, had suffered another fall two years ago when she broke her collar bone.

Coroner's officer Michael Caesar-Homden told a fast track inquest into her death at Shirehall on Wednesday how since then she had been unsteady on her feet since.

On April 4 her son Michael could not get hold of her so went to her home with his daughter.

They saw her lying at the bottom of the stairs and smashed a window to gain access.

She had suffered a head injury and was unconscious.

Emergency services were called with ambulance service and police attending.

Police ruled there were no suspicious circumstances, and she was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, where she was found to have suffered a brain haemorrhage.

She also suffered rib fractures.

Coroner John Ellery gave a conclusion of accidental death.
