The virus that causes diarrhoea and vomiting has resulted in the closure of the Maldwyn Ward and the minor injuries service night shift at the hospital.

It struck the hospital on Sunday, and a spokesperson for for the hospital said: "We regret that this also means that the Minor Injury Service at Welshpool Hospital is temporarily closed overnight (currently 9pm to 8.30am)."

Two wards remain closed to new admissions at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital due to norovirus – but they are now open to visitors.

The wards affected are 27 and 28.

Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust (Sath), which manages the hospital, is urging people to take every precaution to help prevent the spread of infection.

Norovirus is a stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea, which goes away in about two days.
