One casualty was airlifted to hospital after being cut from the wreckage of the 4x4 vehicle.

The crash happened on the Adderley Road, near to the Gingerbread pub on the edge of the town, at 5pm on Saturday.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue service say a man and women were trapped in the vehicle.

Videos from the scene:

The A53 trunk road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene.

Four fire crews including the rescue tender used specialist equipment to release the two occupants of the car while paramedics cared for them in an hour-long operation.

The road was closed to allow the rescue operation to go ahead and to allow the Midlands Air Ambulance to land and take off.

Firefighters used a winch to pull the vehicle out of the shrubbery it had crashed into.

Fire Service group manager Neil Griffiths said: "It was a successful operation enabling a less traumatic rescue for the casualties."
