Man found dead in Wem after concerns raised for his welfare

A man was found dead in Wem in the early hours of the morning, police have confirmed.

West Mercia Police were called to High Street at 6.25am after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man.

A spokeswoman said: "Officers attended but sadly a man was found deceased.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man suffered a cardiac arrest near the Co-Op store.

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene.

A spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a cardiac arrest near the Co-Op on High Street in Wem at 6.26am this morning.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. Sadly nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene."
