Former England captain Graham Gooch OBE, the second highest English Test run scorer of all time, is visiting Oswestry Cricket Club on March 29 as part of a fundraiser for the Morda Road club.

The former Essex and England skipper will give a 30 to 40 minute talk on his career with topics set to range from playing to coaching England and broadcasting.

The talk will be followed by a question and answer session with Gooch, who scored 8,900 runs in 118 Test matches at an average of 42.58 before coaching in county and Test cricket.

Tickets are on sale now and Mark Ball, who is helping to organise the event for the club, is excited about the prospect of having an England legend in the town.

Great stories

He said: "We have had some good people at the club in the past, Dickie Bird, Ashley Giles, Angus Fraser and Derek Pringle, so it is great to have Graham Gooch coming down.

"He has a fantastic CV, has scored a lot of runs for England and I am sure he will have some great stories about the 1982 rebel tour in South Africa, and his famous fall out with Kevin Pietersen in Melbourne.

"Tickets are selling well and would make an ideal Christmas present.

"We will also have some auction items on offer, including a Jumbo333 bat donated by Graham."

There are 150 tickets available.

Standard tickets for the event are priced at £20, including food, and there are ten limited tickets available for £40 each including a meet and greet with Gooch.

Tickets can either be bought from Oswestry Cricket Club, from Mark on 07702 895428, or from Hugh Roberts on 07971 963916.
