Casualty suffers multiple injuries in Oswestry crash

A casualty suffered multiple injuries and had to be cut free after a crash between a car and a stationary van in Oswestry.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the A483/A5 between Whittington and Mile End shortly before midday yesterday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service and an air ambulance were in attendance, with fire crews gaining access to a casualty by using cutting equipment.

Three fire crews in total were called to the scene from Ellesmere, Oswestry and Whittington.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Services said one person was cut out of the car after suffering multiple injuries, but they are not believed the be life threatening.

He said: "We were called at 11.57am to the incident near Mile End island, after reports of a collision between a car and a stationary van.

"We sent one paramedic officer, an ambulance and the air ambulance from Cosford.

"One person had to be cut free by the fire service, and they suffered multiple injuries and were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by land ambulance for further treatment."

Meanwhile a section of the A41 near Whitchurch was also closed yesterday following a serious crash.

The Grindley Brook roundabout was closed by police with traffic being diverted onto the A49.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: "At 6.48am police were called to a collision involving two HGVs and a car on Whitchurch Road, Edge, Malpas."

North West Ambulance Service took one patient to hospital for treatment for a minor leg injury.
