Protests to kick the government into action over climate change are into a fifth day, with police struggling to cope after more than 500 people were arrested for various offences.

Protestors are calling the activities a 'mass civil disobedience campaign' organised by Extinction Rebellion (XR), to get the UK Government to take urgent action.

Ophelia Camp, Morgan Dicks, and Macey Gray are the latest to be arrested, but it is unsure what they have been arrested for.

Lesley Sweet, the first from the group who was arrested live on national television on Tuesday afternoon from Waterloo Bridge said: "We are facing the sixth mass extinction and it is now that we have to act. It's a difficult reality for us to acknowledge and understandable that many people are in denial.

"However, we must engage with the urgency and seriousness of this - the only thing that matters.

"The government, corporations and financial organisations have to make big changes.

"We individuals too have to make big changes to our lifestyles - we are all in this together and XR is acting for all humanity.

"I, along with thousands of others, am prepared to risk my liberty to make change happen now. Without life there is no liberty. Nothing else matters."

A local Extinction Rebellion action afternoon was taking place in the centre of Oswestry today from 2pm to 4pm.
