The 106-year-old has had a remarkable life and is known by near enough everyone in the North Wales town.

Known as Nanny Evans, she has a large family around her who continue to look after her.

Born in South Wales, Rita has been in Chirk for over 75 years and brought up her children in the town after her husband died back in 1952.

In December she is set to turn 107 and is still going strong.

The family haven't planned a big party, but will be holding an open house for friends and family to pop in and visit.

Her daughter, Marian Pearce, is one of many family members who looks after her at her home.

She expressed how proud so is of her mother at the grand old age of 106.

She said: "She was born in Swansea in 1911, and lived in South Wales before moving to Chirk over 75 years ago.

"My father got a job in the mines up here and they moved up and she was a full time mother to the children.

"She has always been busy, and everyone around the town knows her as Nanny Evans.

"We are so proud of her, she is amazing."

The family is looking forward to a small celebration in December ahead of the festive period.

She said: "We have a large family around, and she sees a lot of the local ones.

"We won't be having a big party, but we will have an open house where family and friends can come throughout the day to celebrate and visit her."
