Peter Bellingham, pastor at The Well in Shrewsbury, and Simon Nightingale, chairman of Shropshire Humanists, will discuss their moral values at an event in Shrewsbury University Centre on January 15.

Richard Burnham of Shropshire Humanists, which has organised the event, said the pair were are next-door neighbours and good friends. He added that while their beliefs are different, they share similar moral values.

The audience will have an opportunity for questions and comments during the discussion, which will be chaired by Simon's brother, the Rev John Nightingale.

Mr Burnham said: "It is not an adversarial debate, but a discussion to help Christians understand the basis of humanist morality and vice versa.

"The audience will have an opportunity for questions and comments."

The event at the centre, which is at the Guildhall in Frankwell Quay, starts at 7.30 pm. Admission is free and no ticket is required.

Shropshire Humanists also hosts an 'open mic' session on January 17, where anyone is invited to speak for five minutes on a topic of their own choice that is in some way related to humanism.
