Theatre group the Stretton Players recently put on a production based on the hugely successful British television series that ran for seven seasons from the early 80s to the early 90s.

Director John Avery staged the play, from a script by original show writers Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft, that had a three night run at the Silvester Horne Institute in Church Stretton in May.

Now Mr Avery has handed over £500 of the proceeds to the family of seven year old Riley Guthrie, who was diagnosed with type one diabetes when he was just a baby.

Mr Avery said: "The money represents the proceeds from the drama company’s production of BBC comedy series, ‘Allo ‘Allo which I directed.

"Mum Jacqui, who played 'Michelle of the Resistance', is hoping to raise £1,500 on her justgiving page for JDRF, a charity which funds research into the disease."

Jacqui said: "I want to raise as much money as possible to get us a step closer to the cure for type one diabetes.

"Our son Riley was diagnosed when he was just 16 months old and our whole life changed overnight.

"By donating to JDRF, you are helping to take our family another step closer to a cure.

"I will also be taking part in Trek Fest, The Peaks on September 2."

Stretton Players’ autumn production will be the comedy Local Affairs by Richard Harris, which will be presented at the Silvester Horne Institute from November 16 to 18.
