Dr Catherine Beanland from Church Stretton, who works as a GP at Portcullis Surgery in Ludlow, took on the challenge to raise money for Cancer Research, Marie Curie and the Swimathon Foundation.

It took her less than two a half hours each day to complete the challenge, and she has reached the the £1,000 fundraising mark.

She said: "I have always been a swimmer and have done stuff before. But I thought 'what can I do that will really make people want to sponsor me?'.

"I thought it wouldn't take me long to train for one 5k, so I thought I will do this.

"The patients and people at the practice have been great, and I have managed to raise £1,000 for the charities.

"I got better every day I did it, doing two days at Ludlow and one at the Quarry."

Next year

Now she has completed the challenge Dr Beanland is still hoping to get more donations from people despite the fact she has done the challenge.

And there is already talk of another challenge next year.

She added: "Some of the other people at the practice have talked about doing something next year, so we will wait and see."
