At a judicial panel hearing, the British Horseracing Authority found that on February 6 Western Miller ate leftover feed from a previous meeting.

While attempting to find a new stable, it was discovered that several other stables had urine and droppings in them.

General manager Simon Sherwood said the racecourse fell short of what was expected on that day.

Mr Sherwood said the venue had not been notified that a horse had been fed in the stable in question and therefore it was not on the list for a level two clean up.

“There was a dozen pieces of food hidden in the bedding which is very difficult to find,” he said.

“Some of the accountability needs to be passed onto the trainer in this case because if a horse has been fed in the stable, we need to be notified so we can clean it out.”

When staff from Charlie Longsdon asked for a new stable for Western Miller, who was running in the Attwood Memorial Trophy Handicap Steeple Chase, a clean one could not be found.

Mr Sherwood added: “We have been racing for many years and have never received a fine. It was a one off and a mistake on our behalf.”
