There were three separate blazes at The Ercall, next to The Wrekin, and several other fires in the Telford area on Saturday.

Crews from Shrewsbury and Wellington went to The Ercall just before 5pm and used knapsacks, buckets of water and beaters to douse the flames and stop the fires spreading.

Walker Manel Roura put another fire out himself before the fire crews arrived.

A fire service spokesman said: "There were two separate seats of grass fire and undergrowth and crews had to cope with difficult access. The fire was brought under control by 8.35pm."

Just before 7pm on Saturday a fire crew from Hodnet responded to a fire in Beckbury Drive, Stirchley, which involved undergrowth, trees and garden fence panels.

It was brought under control by 7.54pm.

There was also a rubbish fire just after 8pm on Saturday in the open at Sutton Hill in Telford, which was quickly dealt with by a crew from Hodnet.

On Sunday firefighters were called to deal with a rubbish fire on a BMX track in Telford.

The fire in Dawley began at 10.20am with a crew from Telford Central quickly on the scene.

They used buckets of water and drag rakes to put out the fire within 20 minutes.

And at 1.20pm on Sunday, a crew went to the Telford Equestrian Centre in Lodge Bank Farm, Donnington, where there was a fire involving undergrowth and bushes in woodland adjacent to the equestrian centre.

The blaze, approximately 15 metres square, was under control in half an hour.
