The Donnington branch of Lloyds Bank closed its doors for the last time on Monday after announcing its closure last year.

The company said that 73 per cent of customers in Donnington already used other branches or alternative methods such as online or telephone banking.

James Birch, a spokesperson for Lloyds Bank, said: "We made the difficult decision to close the Lloyds Bank Donnington branch due to the changing ways customers choose to bank with us.

"We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause."

He added that customers can continue to access their banking locally by visiting the nearby Post Office less than half a mile away off Wrekin Drive.

The nearest branch of Lloyds Bank is The Border, in Telford Shopping Centre.

Madeley's branch of the banking group is also set to close in March and is among the 15 that will be axed under moves to restructure the business.

Up to 23 jobs will be lost overall as a result of the closures and the affected sites will close by the end of March.

The branch in Donnington was targeted in two robberies last year.

A security van delivering money to the bank was raided in June, and staff were threatened with a hammer and a crowbar in an armed robbery in September.
