It's Scone Wars! Dawn French v Ironbridge Museums over jam or cream on top

Scone wars have broken out between comedian Dawn French and the Ironbridge Gorge Museums following a tweet showing one of the museum's scones on offer.

Comedian Dawn French opposed the design of Ironbridge Museum's scone

The 61-year-old responded to a tweet from the museums showing a scone with cream, and jam on top.

The tweet was advertising the New Inn Pub, in Blists Hill Victorian Town.

But the French and Saunders star was quick to point out the flaws in the design.

Ironbridge Museums tweeted: "Treat yourself to yummy afternoon tea or traditional Sunday lunch at the New Inn Pub, Blists Hill Victorian Town.

"Check out the menu and details on booking at"

But this was soon corrected by Dawn French, who replied with: "Not at all yummy when you have clearly stacked the scone incorrectly.

"Please amend. Jam first. Always."

This sparked mass debate in the Ironbridge office, with the museum's Twitter account replying: "Well, you've set the cat amongst the pigeons here in the office @Dawn_French - the Cornish-lad is aghast at our rookie error!"

Traditionalists have been forever divided on the correct way to spread jam and cream on a scone and which one should truly come first.

It is thought Cornish people prefer jam first on a scone, while people of Devon insist it should start with cream.
