Main road through Ironbridge set to reopen after being hit by burst pipe

The Wharfage was set to reopen to drivers today after a water leak was found last Thursday.

The road had to be closed because of the size of the excavation and the complicated pipe network in the area.

The complete closure was expected to be lifted at some point yesterday and two-way traffic lights installed, but the plans fell back to today.

Motorists were trying to drive down The Wharfage, which was shut over the weekend for repairs. They were having to turn around and come back the way they came.

Councillor Nicola Lowery, borough councillor for the Ironbridge Gorge, said: “The repair work to the sewer pipe affected has been completed. The sub-contractors on site have advised that the road will hopefully be re-opened to traffic.

“The riverside footway is still open to pedestrians and it is businesses as usual in Ironbridge so please do continue to support our fantastic business community.

“I would like to thank everyone for their patience during these works and I can reassure we continue to do all possible to ensure Severn Trent complete these works at the earliest opportunity.”
