Harper Adams University staff ‘deeply upset’ after death of student George Crawford, 20
Harper Adams University staff have said they are "deeply upset" over the death of one of their students.
George Crawford, 20, died after being hit by a car in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police say investigations are still ongoing.
Today Dr David Llewellyn, vice-chancellor of Harper Adams University, said his deepest condolences were with George's family and friends.
“We were deeply upset to learn of the loss of George and our sincerest condolences are extended to his family and friends at home," he said.
"Students at the University are being given every support possible as they come to terms with the loss of someone who had already become a new friend to many in our student community.
"We are in touch with George’s family and will be doing all we can to help them at this difficult time, and to support the investigation by the authorities of this tragic incident.”
Eleanor Harris, of West Mercia Police, said: "Our enquiries are on-going to establish the full circumstances of the collision and we would continue to appeal to anyone with information to come forward.
Paramedics
"If anyone was in or around Forton Road in Newport in the early hours of October 7 we would urge them to get in contact."
George, from Hawick in Scotland, had travelled to Shropshire for his studies at Harper Adams.
He was hit at the junction of Forton Road and Sunny Gardens at 4.10am on Sunday.
Paramedics took him to hospital, but he died later that morning. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the merit trauma doctor and critical care paramedic were sent to the scene.
