A cafe owner has shown just how hot car interiors can get in the sun — by cooking a steak on the centre console.

The owner of Mildura Dockside Cafe in Mildura, Victoria, Australia, posted images of the steak before and after it had cooked, placed centrally in a metal tray inside the car. It’s claimed the meat was placed there at 11am, taking until 4pm to cook in the sun to a well-done state.

Along with the images, a caption from the cafe owner took the chance to warn of the dangers of heat, saying: “Yesterday at 11am I put a porterhouse steak in my car which was parked in the shade and left it until 4 pm.. It was very well done upon my return.

“With this heat wave please remember never to leave children, elderly or animals in the car. Always check on elderly neighbours, ensure your pets have a way to keep cool and cool drinking water.”

News.com.au reports that temperatures peaked at Mildura 45.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

A commenter on the post from the area shared an image of a pen that had appeared to melt in the same heatwave, adding: “Mildura melts pens I’m sure it could cook a steak”

Not all believed the cafe owner though, with another pundit saying: “I’m sorry I’m calling b*******. A car left IN THE SUN will get up to about 60 to 70 degrees C inside. In the shade? Nope. Not going to get “well done”. It’s a good message, but don’t take people for fools.”

Meanwhile, others saw humour in the situation, with one commenter adding: “Looks tough… should have gone back at 2.”
