Peugeot is now accepting orders for its new 208, with customers able to reserve the supermini for a £500 deposit.

Buyers can place a deposit on one of three models. The GT Line Puretech 100 features a 99bhp, 1.2-litre petrol engine paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, while the BlueHDi 100 has identical power but uses a diesel engine linked to a six-speed manual.

The all-electric e-208 can also be reserved. Customers can do this through Peugeot’s new dedicated reservation site.

The £500 deposit is refundable, and those who place one down will be contacted as soon as full order books open. They’ll then be offered the chance to finalise their specification.

They’ll also be the first to be offered test drives of the eagerly-anticipated new model, and they’ll be given the option of completing their transaction online or at their local dealer.

Peugeot took the decision to allow deposits following huge customer interest and popularity. On the day that the 208 debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, one customer even contacted their local UK dealer to place a deposit.

The new e-208 is set to be a popular choice. It’ll be one of few fully-electric superminis, with a 50kWh battery pack delivering a range of up to 211 miles.

David Peel, managing director of Peugeot UK, said: “We’re delighted that our all-new Peugeot 208 reservation site has now opened. This is a hugely exciting model for us. Not only does the all-new Peugeot 208 deliver on our promise of sharp styling, uncompromising quality and an instinctive driving experience, but the 208 features our first new generation fully electric vehicle, the all-new Peugeot e-208.”

Full order books will open in the late summer, and first customer deliveries will begin early in 2020. Full pricing and specification will be announced closer to launch.
