Woman taken to hospital after two-car crash on A5 in Shrewsbury causes traffic chaos

A woman has been taken to hospital after a crash along the A5 near Dobbies Island, Shrewsbury, which caused traffic chaos for commuters this morning.

There is congestion along the A5 in both directions, as well as further problems on the A49 Hereford Road and towards Meole Brace.

The two-car crash is around a mile after the Dobbies Island and queues are continuing to grow in the area.

Claire Brown, of West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called by the police at 7.52am to reports of a two car RTC on Hereford Road near Dobbies Island.

"One ambulance attended. We treated and conveyed a woman. A second patient, a man was discharged at the scene."

Motorists said that the delays had added about 45 minutes to their journey.

Firefighters and an ambulance were also sent to the nearby Pound Lane because of another crash.

Three cars were involved in the crash. There was one casualty in the care of the ambulance crew.

Two fire crews were sent from Minsterley and Shrewsbury.
