Shropshire Council is to carry out resurfacing work on the top half of Listley Street for three consecutive Sundays from January 20.

Highways staff will be on hand to monitor the work, which is taking place on one of the town's key roads.

The work has been welcomed by Councillor Christian Lea, Bridgnorth East and Astley Abbott’s division, who said: "I very much welcome the news that the top half of Listley Street is going to be resurfaced, with work getting underway this coming Sunday.

"Many local residents have been complaining to me about the state of the road surface for some time now, so I know that they will be pleased that this work is going to be carried out. A short stretch of pavement which is in a poor condition between the entrance to the Library and the top of Railway Street will also be resurfaced at the same time."

When will the work tale place?

  • The work will take place between 8am to 6pm, and the road will be reopen on Monday mornings.

  • The week one closure at Postern Gate will be carried out January 20 with one-way section of Listley Street closed.

  • The second closure will be on January 27, with a complete one-way section with no access to Listley street large car park.

  • The final closure will be on February 3. It will see from the Library to Old School House Listley Street closed. Assistance for the Listley Street's large car park will be in place via Postern Gate.

Councillor Lea said the work had been brought forward, a move he welcomed.

He said: "The road surface has over the past eighteen months or so deteriorated and worn away quite considerably, particularly near the Seagull Fish and Chip shop where some ridges have formed in the road. This has resulted in water collecting in these ridges, with pedestrians running the risk of getting splashed by passing traffic.

"Shropshire Council’s highways department informed me last week that this section of Listley Street is going to be resurfaced, with work commencing on Sunday, January 20 for three consecutive Sundays.

"This work was originally planned to be done in March, so I am particularly pleased that the work is going to be carried out earlier than planned.

"With this work causing some disruption to motorists whilst this work is being undertaken, there will be highways staff on hand manning the road closure."
