Shropshire Cup winners Highley have a place in the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier League in their sights.

The south Shropshire village club will take on Premier wooden spoonists Hanmer in the play-off on Friday night after winning the Molson Coors Mid Shropshire League.

Highley, who recorded a thrilling one-shot victory at Hadley USC in their last game, were confirmed as champions by three points 24 hours later on Friday night when title rivals St Georges could only manage a 9-6 win at Madeley Cricket Club.

The Dragons started well, but when homesters Sue Mumford and Chris Lodge both won 21-16 in the middle four it meant Highley had won the first division for the first time, just four years after joining the Friday night divisions.

They will take on Hanmer for the 14th place among the elite on Friday at Old Shrewsbury on the No.1 green at 7pm, admission with programme costing £1.

Three Shropshire leagues hold crucial meetings today with thoughts already turning to next year.

The Barlows Whitchurch Over-60s League have an executive meeting at Tilstock BC (2pm) when entries for next Tuesday’s draw for partner mixed doubles at Chester Road and orders for the annual presentation lunch on October 16 will be taken. Then at night the SPS Whitchurch League’s end-of-season executive gathering is at the Archibald Worthington Club (7.30pm), with management issues for the AGM and positions becoming vacant on the agenda.

All trophies need to be returned at the meeting – and it’s the same plea for the Molson Coors Mid Shropshire League’s executive meeting tonight at Wellington’s Bayley Club (7.30pm).

The meeting is the deadline for payment of end of season accounts and a whole range of proposals from the Future Ideas Sub Group will be discussed.
