Wendy Icke, the driving force of the two Market Drayton-based leagues, has agreed to be nominated at the county association’s AGM on Monday, February 4.

Her decision was announced at Monday’s County Executive meeting at Meole Brace BC – and warmly welcomed by county chairman Barry Jennings and delegates of affiliated leagues.

Adderley bowler Icke, the secretary of the Market Drayton League and secretary/treasurer of the Market Drayton Senior Citizens League, will serve as No.2 to President Mike Beckett before stepping up that figurehead role in 2020.

The method of making nominations has changed from the traditional list of affiliated leagues in rotation to also allow any deserving person, from any area, to be put forward each year – but finding willing volunteers remains problematic for county officers.

Beckett, who had his proposals for a new-look Shropshire senior inter-league championship approved by the executive, will ask a club from the Barlows Whitchurch Over-60s League – who nominated him to be President –to host the County Merit finals in June once the qualifiers are known.

Planned changes to the County Cup and Shropshire Cup rules were also given the nod to go forward to the annual meeting next month.
