Grasshoppers and Cound are in pole position

Grasshoppers A and Cound are top of the table in the two Wheatland Indoor Leagues going into the Christmas break.

Hoppers A are still unbeaten in Division One after their most recent victory over Willey, while Cound made it six out of six in Division Two with a win against Cae Glas.

Only Stuart Walters (28 not out) could manage double figures for relegation-threatened Willey as they struggled to cope with tight spells from Hoppers aces Alex Johnson – going for just seven from three overs – and Craig Heath (1-10 off three).

Willey’s total of 69-4 never looked enough as both openers Joe Yapp and Heath retired, leaving Jack Edwards and debutant Marc Lovelock to complete the.

Frankton remain rooted to the foot of the table after they were beaten by Beacon. Opener Mike Turner’s unbeaten 27 was only topped by the extras tally of 30 as no-one else managed more than seven in Beacon’s total of 73-4, Ed Wainwright picking up 2-13 for the Hardwick Park outfit.

But Frankton’s reply never gathered momentum and the innings was soon wrapped up for 36, both Antony Duffy and Timothy Cliffe claiming two wickets each.

Shelton and Grasshoppers B shared another nailbiter – Shelton once again coming out on top, this time on the penultimate ball (having won on the last ball in their previous encounter).

Ian Fox enjoyed his return to the Hoppers side with an unbeaten 27, and runs down the order from Joss Elliott (18), Adam Williams (12) and Brenton Fairey (12 not out) helped them up to 86-3.

A solid foundation from Alex Salisbury (27 not out) and Connor Cheshire (21) got Shelton off to a good start and it was left to skipper Ben Chambers and Jamie Whelan to finish the job off with a ball to spare.

Unbeaten Cound made light work of their chase against Cae Glas in Division 2.

Stuart Eyres started well for the Oswestry side with an unbeaten 29, but three ducks down the order (two to Tom Quraishi) saw them collapse to 63-5.

Jack Case (29 not out) and Crag Kinsey (19) ensured there was to be no upset as they crossed the line just one wicket down and with more than five overs to spare.

Condover remain in second place after getting the better of Beacon B in a tight game. In-form Charlie Rogers hit an unbeaten 48 despite the best efforts of Adam Whitrick (2-15) as Condover compiled 104-5.

In reply there were contributions from Charlie Higgin (18), Whitrick (16) and Chris Scott (16), but no-one went on to get the big score required as the Frankwell side were dismissed just 14 runs short.

Alberbury remain in third after seeing off an improving youthful Church Stretton side. Indoor stalwarts Mark Jones (34not out) and Steve Jarrett (24) did the bulk of the damage as the Pecknall Farm side amassed 98-5, Matthew Weaver picking up 2-18.

Brothers Owen Morris (18 not out) and Austin (15) started well for Stretton, but there was little else down the order, and the introduction of batsman James Hearle (4-13) to the bowling attack swept the tail away, Stretton finishing on 57-5.
